Compressed Timelapse of the City

May 26th, 2009

Check out these images by artist Peter Funch who creates a picture of the homogeneous city by amalgamating photos taken from the same point over an extended period.

In my opinion, the images are more powerful as a form of communication than as a tool for analysis.  Perhaps, similar images could be used to help brand a street, district or city.  It would be a brand based on (at least a subset of) the actual users.  Of course, I take exception with the idea (actually my idea) of “selecting” which users define the brand.

Anyways, be sure to check out the rest of the images at his site.

    Those photos are amazing.

You picked 2 of my 3 favorites.
On choice #1, well … mine too probably for the same 2 reasons
On choice #2, who can’t like all the doggies
My choice #3 was different. I liked all the yawners.

I thought these were really interesting, I loved looking at each because they are all so stimulating. I liked the multiple pictures of the same intersections with the different groups of “users”. Like all carrying objects, smoking, or mailing envelopes. I especially liked the yawners, the picture posing/taking, and the planes flying over the beach.
